Pilgrims Begin Gathering In ArafahFrom Zainal Abdul Jalil
MECCA, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- Some 26,000 Malaysians are among the estimated 2.5 million Muslims from around the world who are making their way to Arafah for the "wukuf" (gathering), an important ritual of the Haj pilgrimage.
The pilgrims are thankful for the dry weather and temperature of between 34 and 35 degrees Celsius when they will be performing the ritual in Arafah.
The pilgrims have begun to travel in buses to Arafah, 21km from here, from about 11am yesterday (4am Malaysian time), under tight security and according to the schedule provided by the Saudi Arabian authorities.
They have to be in Arafah by this afternoon, at the latest, and then proceed to Muzdalifah in the evening to collect small stones for the stoning-of-the-devil ritual in Mina.
Malaysian pilgrims spent much of last night in prayer and reading of the Quran.
For the first time, the Saudi Arabian civil defence force disseminated information on security matters and the weather through the Global Broadcast System (GBS).
