I watched the TV9 program this morning which was in Bahasa Malaysia and made my own notes in English as I watched the program. Here are my notes from this morning. I've added what I know (green highlight). My notes are for sharing.
TV9, 23 August 2011, 7 am – 8 am: Maqasid Al-Quran (Bhg 1)
Al-Quran has 114 Surah and 6,236 Ayat. The first Surah is Al-Fatihah, the last Surah is Al-Nas
Al-Quran was brought down from Lauh Mahfuz to Baitul Izzat to Nabi Muhammad s.a.w.
Al-Quran was brought down to Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. on Lailatul Qadar (Night of Decree)
Lailatul Qadar is a special night which can be found in the last 10 days of Ramadhan
It took 22 years 22 months 22 days (ie approx. ~ 23 years) for the entire al-Quran to make its way from Baitul Izzat to reach Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. ; 13 years in Makkah plus 10 years in Madinah
Al-Quran was brought down 1,550 years ago to Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. in Gua Hirah (Hirah Cave)
Al-Quran is roh (soul)
We want roh al-Quran in us
Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. had roh al-Quran in him
We must know and understand al-Quran
Al-Quran is kalam Allah, ie it comes from Allah
Al-Quran was cipta (invented, prepared) by Allah
We cannot have syak (doubt) for al-Quran, eg question whether it is real, unreal, halal or haram
Believe in al-Quran means syurga
Al-Quran is a kitab (book) that is properly arranged (disusun dgn rapi, fusilat)
We cannot argue (pertikai) about the contents of al-Quran
Allah knows us and our problems. We have to turn to al-Quran to do things right.

Kitab yang terpelihara: Allah looks after al-Quran - its arrangement, writing, lines and meanings
Allah prepared al-Quran and therefore He looks after it
Kitab Taurat and Bible have been interfered with and are not the real kitab that were sent down
Al-Quran comes in the Arabic language only and remains that way till the end of time
Al-Quran goes to Nabi Muhammad s.a.w.
Mukjizat is in al-Quran
Allah challenges those who do not believe in al-Quran
Allah tells them to bring their people forth to demonstrate why they don’t believe in al-Quran
Question: Kitab Zabur, Taurat and Bible vs al-Quran?
Answer: Al-Quran is international, not for local use only, not for a certain community. Even those who do not understand al-Quran read it everywhere on earth
People say “It’s good that you read al-Quran”. People feel peace when they hear al-Quran being read. Al-Quran is Mukjizat and Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. is Mukjizat. Nabi Musa a.s. is Mukjizat but not his book, Taurat. His cane is Mukjizat. Even the sweat of Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. is fragrant. He left us his Mukjizat for us, ie al-Quran mul-Karim. Al-Quran remains forever. Everyone who studies al-Quran gets a pearl for it, a different pearl from other pearls.
Answer: Al-Quran is transferred by Mutawatir. It means it was transferred from one generation to another generation, from many to many. From Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. to a lot of his Sahabat (Companions) to Tabiin then to us (Akhiriin)
Question: Ahlak Rasulullah s.a.w.. Zaman terbaik?
Answer: Keistimewaan to Umat Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. Al-Quran. We have to practise as the Sahabat had. If we don’t amal as they had, we are far from it. Al-Quran must be practised as Sahabat did.
Tadabur means to study al-Quran. Al-Quran gives reminders to those who have a heart. It is an easy kitab (book) to understand. Everyone understands it. Even those who want to become Muslim get good messages from its translation and then go on to become Muslims.

What is the main purpose of Allah sending down al-Quran? There are many who do not believe in al-Quran. They have seen rain, night, day etc but why don’t they believe in al-Quran? People often ignore al-Quran and only search for al-Quran at the time of death, hence “Nuzul Quran”. Otherwise al-Quran remains dusty “Suci Dalam Debu”. Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. complained to Allah that his Ummah pushes al-Quran aside. People don’t read and don’t care about al-Quran nowadays. Why? They don’t even read al-Quran during Ramadan. Some read and khatam al-Quran many times but don’t bother to look up the meanings of what they read. Some don’t care about the halal and haram matters mentioned in al-Quran. When it’s mourning, everything is stopped for 40 days, including ASTRO. What is the purpose of al-Quran?
Question: Why don’t Umat pay attention to al-Quran?
Answer: People don’t make al-Quran a priority in life. Some care, some don’t. We have to make reading al-Quran a priority as it is the source of knowledge. InsyaAllah we will read it and get a good source of knowledge from it.
4 Purposes of Al-Quran
i. Hidayah: Describes life as an individual, in the family, in the community. Al-Quran puts us on the straight path. Hudan = petunjuk; furqan = truth
ii. Muslim Individual: changes a person to a better knowledgeable person
iii. To shape the Islamic community with al-Quran as an axis: from sleep-wake-to sleep. His entire life puji Allah since we didn’t die. Some wake up paralysed. So we must say Alhamdulillah each time we wake up and for everything. Every movement must be based on al-Quran. Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. and his Sahabat were great as they had based everything on al-Quran.
iv. Practise al-Quran and Sunnah Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. Those who choose other than al-Quran and Sunnah, they will be misled. Halal is halal and haram remains haram. Don’t try to make haram into halal.
Question: Mukjizat Rasulullah s.a.w. vs previous prophets?
Answer: Nabi Muhammad had 2 Mukjizat – Hisiyah and Maknawiyah. Previous prophets only had Hisiyah. Eg Nabi Isa a.s. (Jesus) could treat diseases only.
Question: Surah Al-Ankabut (Ayat 46) cegah perbuatan keji dan munkar.
Answer: If we only read al-Quran without understanding it, will it protect us from fasha and munkar? Al-Quran is for to tell us, to explain clearly to us. If we do not know the meaning then we haven’t reached its purpose, the purpose for which al-Quran was sent down.
Question: The West studied the facts in al-Quran, bought expensive equipment to study reality. What about us?
Answer: We now have studies on science and al-Quran. The 2 do not clash as both science and al-Quran are indeed from Allah. In fact they support each other. Al-Quran already tells everything we wish to know. Even the thumbprint is mentioned in al-Quran. Our thumbprints are different and that is already mentioned in al-Quran.
